This faithful adaptation of Mary Shelley's novel tells the familiar tale of the scientific genius, Vitali, who becomes obsessed with the thought of bringing the dead back to life. The hours of work are exhausting and take a physical toll on his body, but Vitali finally makes his monster.

Oscarsson (a superb Swedish actor who is best known for his role in HUNGER [1968]) doesn't look like the Karloff monster. He instead looks like a lifeless man who has recently been brought back from the dead. The monster, desiring a bride of his own, tries to take Vitali's, but instead kills her.

A chase then begins with the monster leading Vitali through the bitter snows of the Arctic. On par with the made-for-TV film FRANKENSTEIN: THE TRUE STORY (1973), VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN successfully retells Shelley's story without gore or sensationalism, relying instead on characterizations and an

authentic period atmosphere.
