Insightful and genuine, VALLEY GIRL tells the unlikely tale of Julie (Deborah Foreman), a deb from the Valley, and Randy (Nicholas Cage), a punk rocker from Hollywood, falling in love. As prom time approaches, Julie bows to pressure from her friends to stop dating the "creep" from "Hollyweird." She dumps Randy for her old boyfriend, Tommy (Michael Bowen), a mindless jock. Randy tries a number of unsuccessful stunts to win her back, then reluctantly decides to go to the prom and force a confrontation. This simplified Romeo and Juliet tale was written and performed with such heart and care that it is impossible to dislike. The cast is wonderful, headed by the engaging couple of Cage and Foreman and wittily directed by Coolidge. VALLEY GIRL also boasts an eclectic pop score that features songs by Modern English, Josie Cotton, Men at Work, The Plimsouls, Sparks, Psychedelic Furs, and Eddie Grant, among others.
