Set in Yugoslavia during WW II, UNDERGROUND GUERRILLAS tells the story of the Petrovitch clan, which fights against the invading Nazi troops in its small village. Peasant resistance to the Germans is seen in Clements' underground tactics, which survive through information he receives from

his doctor brother Murray, who pretends to be a collaborator. The family's attacks on Nazi soldiers and their posts is finally ended, however, when the Petrovitch clan is attacked by the enemy. Released in Britain in 1943, the film was made at a time when the Chetnik fighters under the command of

Draja Mihailovitch were still being touted as resistance heroes (they actually collaborated with the Nazis against Tito's partisan force), and was originally titled CHETNIK. However, a conflict arose when 20th Century-Fox released its CHETNIKS in the same year (starring Philip Dorn as

Mihailovitch), and the name was changed.
