This remake of a COWBOY FROM BROOKLYN (1938) features Carson and Morgan as a low-level song-and-dance team who find themselves stuck on a Texas dude ranch. A variety of hijinks ensues, including jail, rodeos, and romance, the latter coming in the form of Edwards and Malone. There's also

some business with Tucker, a nefarious hood whom the would-be cowboys end up forcing off the ranch. This spoof of western formulas has some wonderfully witty moments, scripted by Billy Wilder's regular collaborator, Diamond. One enjoyable sequence cuts back and forth between Carson and Morgan, and

Edwards and Malone, as the four prepare for bed in gender separated rooms. Also included is a cartoon dream sequence, created by Freleng, one of the best animators at Warners' "Termite Terrace." Carson is amusing in the lead, with Morgan doing a good job as the more romantic member of the duo.

Butler's direction, though nothing special, suits the material in a nice, easygoing manner. The songs include "Every Day I Love You Just a Little Bit More," "Hankerin'," "I Don't Care If It Rains All Night," "There's Music In the Land," and "I Wanna Be a Cowboy In the Movies" (Jule Styne, Sammy

Cahn).
