Twilight People Reviews

This is Romero's second attempt to re-create the ISLAND OF LOST SOULS. The first time around he acted as the executive producer for TERROR IS A MAN (1959), but this time he takes both the directing and producing credits. Former teen heartthrob Ashley is an adventurer who is spirited away to the mysterious island where a mad scientist creates animal-like humans. Among the poor creatures who are the results of the scientist's experiments are an antelope man, a winged bat-man, an apeman, a wolf woman, and a panther woman (played by TV and blaxploitation veteran Pam Grier). A Nazi and a tree woman are also on hand for the gory goings-on. Unfortunately, none of this business is memorable, even on a camp level. The film is as inept as they come, with some pretty poor makeup jobs to boot.
