Playful and slight as can be, this whimsical fairy tale follows a loser who gets a miraculous second chance at love. Aspiring actor Vic (Douglas Henshall) has blown it: He cheated on his beautiful, intelligent, loving girlfriend Sylvia (Lena

Headley), and now she's going to marry another man. Despairing, Vic goes on a bender and runs into some very odd characters, including a mysterious bartender (Elizabeth McGovern) and a pair of garbage men (Gustavo Salmeron , Eusebio Lazaro) who seem to have magical powers. In fact, they must have,

because after carousing around town with them Vic wakes up to discover that he's reliving the fateful day when he broke Sylvia's heart. Only this time he's determined to do it right and make her so happy she'll never wind up in the arms of Dave (Mark Strong), the do-gooder from the gym. Funny

thing, though: No matter how hard Vic tries to make things work out the way he wants, they have a way of going off on their own. Don't dismiss it as another SLIDING DOORS: This airy little romantic comedy is quite charming and benefits tremendously from the ensemble work of the thoroughly

professional cast, including Spanish star Penelope Cruz as the new woman in Vic's miserable life. It's the sort of movie that cries out to be discovered on some lazy weekend, when its modest charms will be magnified by modest expectations.
