Janssen is a private eye specializing in missing persons cases. When movie star Dexter's secretary is murdered, Janssen links the death to the disappearance of Merrill, a rich woman who had vanished a few years previously. He meets with Dexter and Crain, the detectives's former fiancee.

He also meets with Merrill, unaware that this is the missing heiress now using an alias. However, Janssen senses something peculiar about her and shortly thereafter is approached by Aubuchon, who asks the detective to look for his missing brother. Janssen runs into Merrill again on an airplane and

realizes that he had met her in Japan while he was recuperating from wounds suffered in the Korean conflict. From there Janssen learns that Merrill had gotten mixed up with a guy who had made her pregnant and whom she believed she had killed. To avoid any embarrassment to her family, Merrill had

fled to Japan. Upon further digging Janssen deduces that Dexter killed both his secretary and the man Merrill thought she had done in. Dexter also proves to be Aubuchon's missing brother, and the two siblings square off. Aubuchon kills Dexter, leaving Janssen to renew his romance with Merrill. The

film is a little long but plays its hard-boiled detective format nicely. Janssen is good as the quintessential private eye. He's given good support by the director and cast. At times the dialog borders on self-parody, though that's not always a fault. The film is slightly ridiculous as it is and

good pulpy fun at its best moments.
