When Hollywood movie star Farrell arrives in London to work in his first British picture, he is hounded by avid admirers. Seeking shelter, he boards a bus and finds himself seated beside sweet young orphan girl Lawson. Delighted with the solace of her company, he arranges for a further

meeting. To the dismay of his manager, Ratoff, Farrell evades the duties of a star, avoiding his public and, instead, picnicking and partying with his newfound nonentity. When she learns of her hero's true identity, Lawson tries to disappear from his life. The disgruntled star decides to eschew

the production and return to the US. This forces manager Ratoff to have a change of heart. Locating the lass, he puts her on a tugboat and pursues the ocean liner carrying Farrell away. The lovers are reunited, production is resumed, and all ends well. Ratoff is superb and the rest of the cast

performs well, including director Banks, who plays, of all things, a film director.
