Almost a decade after reaching stardom with the long-running railroad series The Hazards of Helen, the husband-and-wife team of Helen Holmes and actor-director J.P. McGowan was still battling train robbers, runaway boxcars, and broken signals. Holmes was no longer the athletic Helen of yore, however, and the pair's newest exploits were released to the neighborhood theaters only. The Train Wreckers was produced by penny-pinching Gower Gulch mogul Morris R. Schlank and distributed through Schlank's Anchor Film company. Neither Holmes' fame nor her marriage to McGowan would survive into the talkie era.
