The first and only feature directed by actor Tony Lo Bianco, TOO SCARED TO SCREAM is the fairly atmospheric but less than chilling tale of a maniac who is menacing a posh Manhattan apartment building. The police detective in charge of the investigation, Lieutenant Dinardo (Mike Connors of

TV's "Mannix"), uses a female undercover cop (Anne Archer) to entrap the obvious killer, Hardwick (Ian McShane), a doorman with a predilection for Shakespeare and an unnatural fixation on his invalid mother (Maureen O'Sullivan). Although the plot isn't especially plausible, Lo Bianco milks the

situation for all it's worth and manages to create some well-developed, eccentric characters who fall victim to the knife-wielding psycho. Connors, who also produced, does a nice job with a role for which he's a little too old, while the rest of the cast--Archer, McShane, Leon Isaac Kennedy, John

Heard and Murray Hamilton--are too good for this sort of fare.
