Texas, 1869. Scott, a Texan and former Confederate soldier, is now wearing the Union uniform and has been assigned to guard the carpetbaggers and swindlers from the angry locals who would like to lynch them. While Scott has great distaste for his assignment, he is a good soldier and

performs his duty. He begins to have doubts when McGraw, a Texas patriot, appears to have been charged unfairly with murder by fellow officer Barker, the darling of Yankee commander Hull. Eventually Scott gets to the bottom of the mess, straightens things out, and kicks the bums back North. While

the script does some amazingly contrived somersaults, Andre de Toth's crisp direction nearly pulls it off.
