On Christmas, 1946, McDermott is at home enjoying his holiday in Canada. He receives a telegram from "the Fergusons" and in a flashback remembers the Christmas he spent with this family. It is 1942 and McDermott is a soldier in the Canadian army. He's taken as a holiday guest by this

British family and soon finds himself being chased by both the daughter (Pilbeam) and the former maid, now in uniform herself, the husky heroine Johns. In the end, Johns wins, and she is seen preparing Christmas dinner in McDermott's Canadian home. This is a charming little comedy directed by the

irrepressible Frenchman Marcel Varnel, full of good cheer and many funny moments, and, surprisingly, it has aged well.
