The Sure Thing Reviews

A charming surprise, THE SURE THING is IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT with acne. It's life in the Ivy League. Walter "Gib" Gibson (John Cusack) is a junk food junkie, a beer-swilling freshman who lives for women but strikes out more often than a pitcher. Alison Bradbury (Daphne Zuniga) is an all-American lass who has planned her life down to where she'll retire. They meet in a writing class and sparks fly, but the wrong kind of sparks. They hate each other on sight, or so it seems. Gib's pal, Lance (Anthony Edwards), invites him to spend Christmas in the West and says that he can arrange a date in California with a girl who is "a sure thing." Gib plans to drive out with a California-bound couple. At the same time, Alison arranges to go with the same couple to visit her own boy friend in California. Lots of good music, good humor, affection, and more than some passing philosophy as writers Steven L. Bloom and Jonathan Roberts poke fun at the effete East and the laidback West.
