Edwige Fenech, the queen of Euro-sex thrillers, stars as a cruelly manipulated wife in this convoluted giallo. Wealthy Viennese beauty Julie (Fenech) married an older American, Ambassador Neil Wardh (Alberto de Mendoza) for the express purpose of extricating herself from her intense sado-masochistic relationship with ex-boyfriend Jean (Ivan Rassimov). Though the marriage is marked by loneliness and neglect, when Wardh's job brings him to Austria Julie must come along. Her old friend Carol (Cristina Airoldi) invites her to a wild party, where Carol's cousin, George (George Hilton) hits on her; Julie accepts his offer of a ride home after she catches sight of Jean (Ivan Rassimov) in the crowd of revellers, who include two silly girls ripping off each other's paper dresses. One of the girls is murdered later that night by the serial sex killer who's terrorizing Vienna. Neglected and afraid to be alone, Julie drifts into an affair with George, only to find herself being blackmailed. Carol, who thinks the blackmailer is just Jean trying to rattle Julie, agrees to rendez-vous with him in a public park, but is brutally slain. Meanwhile, George is pressuring Julie to leave her husband and run away with him. Who is the killer, and why does he seem to have become fixated on Julie's circle of rich, decadent friends? Though it never rises above the formula, director Sergio Martino's first giallo features fabulously sexadelic costumes and set design, and the story's twists, convoluted though they are, make cruel sense.
