A standard western for Murphy features a plot right out of a 1940s programmer. He plays a man returning to the home he left after killing the son of an evil rancher in a forced duel. Murphy wants to live on his father's ranch and rekindle his romance with Anders. En route home he discovers that a gang of outlaws is planning to hold up the bank. Most of the men thereabouts have gone on a cattle drive, leaving the town defenseless, so Murphy agrees to help his old friend, Best, fend off the bad guys. A bloody battle ensues and Best is killed. Murphy, Hatton, and Meredith are the only survivors, and together they defeat the outlaws. Murphy is allowed to remain and is appointed sheriff. The story is well told and has some good action sequences. The second half drags, however, until the final battle. It's all been done before, but Murphy is appealing and does a nice job with his role.
