The New Interns Reviews

A follow-up to the commercially successful THE INTERNS, this film has the same type of structure and brings in the same leads: Callan, Powers, Savalas, and Stevens. The picture is a fast-paced look at a group of interns struggling through their first year in a real hospital setting. Callan is a girl-crazy intern, returning for his second try at internship after suffering a nervous breakdown the first time. He acts as leader and advisor for the rest of the group, always trying to get his hands on Eden, who eventually forces marriage upon him. Jones, an obstetrician, is married to Powers, but their marriage is threatened when it is discovered that Jones is sterile. Segal, in his first feature role, has grown up in the ghetto and still carries a chip on his shoulder. He's out to get Stevens, who is cold to him after being raped by three ghetto toughs. Several other stories are successfully intermingled with these main ones. The situations lack any resemblance to those in a real hospital, but the enjoyable plot distracts the viewer from this flaw. Cast members fit their roles quite well.
