More gothic horror from the Italians, this time set in England at the turn of the century. Berger stars as a crazed doctor suspected of murdering female deaf-mute patients at his clinic. His purpose is to reconstruct the once-beautiful face of his sister-in-law, who was disfigured when

she fell into a vat of quicklime (though some say she was pushed in by the good doctor himself). When a new nurse arrives at the clinic and is promptly murdered, suspicion again falls on Berger. Is he the hooded killer who stalks his victims and then dispatches them with a razor blade, or could it

be his invalid wife (Young), or the blackmailer (Prevost), or the homicidal patient (Righi)? Anyone who's seen enough of these Italian slasher movies knows the answer to this one. Although the plot and characterizations are all terribly predictable, director Scardamaglia does a fairly good job of

evoking a creepy mood, and the period flavor is impressive.
