Barbra Streisand and Ryan O'Neal are teamed in this boxing-based screwball comedy in the same vein as their earlier, more successful collaboration, WHAT'S UP, DOC? She is Hillary Kramer, a bankrupt perfume magnate; he is Kid Natural, a less than talented prizefighter-turned-driving

instructor whose contract she took over as a tax write-off in more prosperous times. Now Hillary is determined to make some money on her investment. Becoming Kid's manager and immersing herself in the very male world of prizefighting, she forces him back into the ring. The problem is he's still a

lousy fighter. Needless to say, plenty of romantic sparks fly en route to the clinch that ends this infrequently amusing battle of the sexes. THE MAIN EVENT was the film debut of Tim Rossovich, the glass-chewing former USC and Philadelphia Eagle star who plays one of O'Neal's opponents here and

went on to appear in several other films, including THE LONG RIDERS (1980); CHEECH & CHONG'S NICE DREAMS (1981); and NIGHT SHIFT (1982).
