The Lion Has Wings Reviews

Though today this film seems ridiculous, for its time it was an important piece. This was a propaganda film released during WW II, combining actual documentary footage with a slight story to explain British involvement in the war. The story is little more than an excuse to show the British home front and the creation of airplanes. In addition to newsreel and documentary footage, scenes from FIRE OVER ENGLAND and THE GAP also are incorporated. In 1940, this was an important morale booster, but it, like many other propaganda pieces, shows no insight for the post-war population. Korda, who produced, also directed some sequences, though he is not credited as a director.
