For her 25th year of existence, Mitzi Bearclaw has grand plans: design hats that will affect change in the world and spend time with her boyfriend Ringo Leaves-No-Shadow in Toronto. Unfortunately for her, none of these is in the cards to happen as she is called home to the remote Owl Island to take care of her mother, who she heard is already on her deathbed. Upon her arrival, she immediately learns that a lot of what she has been told isn't true—one of which is her mother's condition.
