This hilarious comedy stars Alastair Sim as Hawkins, a professional assassin who has long been out of action. He comes out of his retirement when he is hired to do away with Sir Gregory Upshoot (Huntley), a pompous politician. Hawkins tracks his quarry to a decrepit seaside hotel called

the Green Man, and waits there to spring his trap, disguising himself as a simple clockmaker. As such he puts up with a bevy of dowagers at the resort, joining in the staid teas, conversations, and musical diversions. Meanwhile, a bomb he has planted is ready to explode upon Sir Upshoot's arrival.

But it seems as if the victim will never appear! Alastair Sim is a delight as the assassin with the soul of an aesthete. Terry-Thomas is also very funny in this underrated little gem.
