THE GAY SISTERS is anything but. Instead it's a long, boring, and gray, rather than gay, story. Stanwyck, Coleman, and Fitzgerald are left motherless when their mom goes down on the Lusitania. Their father is killed in France, and they must now oversee their huge Fifth Avenue mansion on

their own. Stanwyck married Brent in order to get an inheritance from her aunt, and Brent, a real-estate developer, wants to get his hands on the family's mansion in order to raze it and build a huge complex. Stanwyck and Brent were married years before, and she's kept that a secret. She begins a

personal campaign against Brent and vows to "never sell the land." Big buildings soon surround the house. Brent wants revenge for her having walked out on him and neglected to tell him that he fathered a son during their marriage. Several court scenes take up the middle of the film, and the whole

thing leaves a sour taste in the mouth. Actor Byron Barr played the role of Gig Young and took that name as his stage name, going on to achieve stardom in the movies and on television. He died by his own hand in 1978 after, police theorized, he murdered his wife of three weeks in their New York

apartment. His last film, released after his suicide, was THE GAME OF DEATH (1979). Stephen Longstreet, who wrote the novel Coffee's screenplay was based upon, is also a superb graphic artist who specializes in famous faces.
