The Fountain Reviews

Lukas is a German officer who leaves his loving wife, Harding, at home while he goes off to fight in WW I. She falls in love with dashing young Britisher Aherne in her husband's absence. Lukas returns from the front suffering from the after-effects of poison gas and missing an arm. Guiltily, Harding nurses him but it is only a matter of time before Lukas senses what transpired while he was gone. Knowing that he is about to die, Lukas lets Harding know that he understands--at least she found someone to replace him. Though well-intended and occasionally moving, the film lumbers slowly along to the fade, dragging tedium in its wake.
