John Travolta, who plied his trade in straight-to-video land before LOOK WHO'S TALKING revived his box-office profile, stars in this comedy that fails to deliver. Deep in the heart of the Soviet Union lies a replicated, but outdated, Hometown USA where future spies are literally raised as

"Americans." In an effort to bring the town up to date, "experts" Travis (John Travolta) and partner Wendell (Arye Gross), are shanghaied by KGB man Smith (Charles Martin Smith) into opening a hot night club in what they think is Indian Springs, Nebraska. Soon Travis' dance moves enthrall fetching

Soviet spy Bonnie (Kelly Preston), and the experts unwittingly get embroiled in nasty internal KGB politicking. When they tumble onto the truth, they are offered the choice of death or defection, but the two opt instead to rally the locals. The silly premise is not helped by a weak script, which

the actors don't manage to enliven. The obligatory dance scene with Travolta and Preston is indifferently choreographed and inappropriately salacious, and the rollicking madcap ending has a tacked-on feeling.
