Nine women search the countryside for food and other human beings after the end of WW III, hoping to find men so they can restart the human race. Led by an old woman, they travel on foot and on horseback. They meet an old man after they kill his cow and, overwhelmed at meeting other

humans, the old man invites them to his place. They have dinner, and the young women are amazed by his phonograph (his only record, the "Beer Barrel Polka"). The older woman dies during the night, and the others prepare to leave the next day. They kill the old man when he won't give them his

phonograph. This is a bleak example of Czech film-making in the late 1960s.
