Tacchella's follow-up to the enormously successful COUSIN, COUSINE is a loosely structured collection of country vignettes with a large cast of eccentrics. Most of the folks in the quiet provincial town are content, or at least believe themselves to be so, but gradually these simple people

find the urge growing inside them to discover what city life is all about. The differences between the urban and rural lifestyles are paralleled in the romance between ex-Parisian Fossey and country bumpkin Serres. There are some very sweet, memorable moments in the film, with an especially

pleasant ending, but overall there isn't much here that hasn't been seen before. Were it not for the attention received by COUSIN, COUSINE, it's highly unlikely that THE BLUE COUNTRY would have ever made it to US shores. (In French; English subtitles.)
