Tucker, a notorious womanizer and wealthy stockbroker, is shot to death in his country estate and it's Powell into the breach. Powell has been a guest at the estate, and he does the usual roundup of suspects before nailing the killer. This so-so film ranges far afield from the original Van Dine novel which was based upon the mysterious 1920 murder of card wizard and millionaire Joseph Elwell, a killing that has gone unsolved to this day.
