Not a bad monster film, featuring the usual atomic explosion that causes all the trouble. This time, it's responsible for releasing a long-frozen monster in the Arctic. When Christian tells what's happened, no one believes him, thinking it's "Arctic Fever" talking. The monster makes its way

down the northeastern coast of the US, arriving in New York City where it cuts a swath across Gotham not unlike Godzilla does a while later. Then it's back into the Atlantic and eventual reappearance at Coney Island where it gets involved in the roller coaster area and is finally shot by a

radioactive isotope. Lots of good monster sequences overshadow any acting in the movie. The scenes at Coney Island are very good, but if the beast were to surface these days in that neighborhood, he'd be frightened to walk the streets. Excellent Ray Harryhausen special effects.
