THIRTY-NINE STEPS; SECRET AGENT; YOUNG AND INNOCENT) while under contract with Gaumont British. He also worked on GOODBYE MR. CHIPS (1939), ODD MAN OUT (1947) and HAMLET (1948) before retiring to the United States.
