being a painfully inauthentic 'hood movie and some kind of street-smart fairy tale with no street smarts at all, and it appears to have been made by people whose knowledge of urban African-American fashions, speech and behavior is entirely cribbed from cheap Blaxploitation movies. Looking for some

fun, aimless hustler Curtis (Kevin Thigpen) and his buddies rough up a couple of cops, one of whom turns out to be Curtis's high-school sweetheart, Tracy (Nicole Prescott). Curtis and Tracy renew their relationship, which leads to no end of trouble: She, after all, is not only a cop but is also

married, while he is being aggressively recruited by Jamal (Ron Brice), a ghetto Robin Hood in Black Panther drag who's brought himself to the attention of the police by tarring and feathering rich white people. Calling itself a "fable" neither disguises nor excuses the fact that this film oozes

inauthenticity from every frame.
