Made in 1995 and released to home video in 1997, STOLEN HEARTS is another dime-a-dozen "erotic thriller" with a wan plot, unmemorable performers, and tepid sex scenes.
Even though sexy con man Brandon Keyes (Jim Finiani) ripped off bar owner Dana Anders (Paula Aletonis) for her life savings of $600,000, she can't bear to report him to the police. So she hires private investigator Justin Gibbons (Vincent Dale) to get her money back. And she suggests that he take
along bar manager Tess (Landon Hall), who has the psychic ability to see into the past of any one or thing she touches. Planning to skip the country, Brandon is forced to go to the mob for a passport. While he waits, he stays at the apartment of Sherrie (Lori Jo Hendrix-Kenton), one of Dana's
waitresses who is moonlighting as a stripper. Justin and Tess interview a waitress at the strip club, who denies knowing anything about Brandon until Tess's psychic powers flush her out and she reveals that Brandon is staying with Sherrie. Arriving at Sherrie's apartment when Brandon is away, they
recover the money. When the desperate con man returns, he guesses where his money went and kidnaps Tess. Justin saves her but, per Dana's instructions, lets Brandon go free. Justin and Tess admit their attraction to each other and get married.
As far as erotic thrillers go, STOLEN HEARTS is a perfectly balanced piece of filmmaking: The plot scenes make you want to fast-forward to the naked bodies, and the naked bodies make you wish they'd hurry up and get back to the story. The efforts of the filmmakers, while generally competent,
evince about that same amount of passion in their work. The performers are only sufficiently attractive such that the first sight of any of them naked is plenty to satisfy the viewer's curiosity. (The most tedious scenes here are those set in the strip bar, a "private gentleman's club" where the
girls gyrate so long and so dispiritedly that you begin to wonder if its actually a club for masochists intent on terminal boredom.) (Violence, extensive nudity, sexual situations, adult situations, profanity.)
