This slickly made chiller spices up a standard-issue FATAL ATTRACTION scenario with some modern twists. Model citizen and successful advertising executive Mack Maddox (C. Thomas Howell) is selected for jury duty and doesn't immediately recognize his connection to accused wife-slayer Ezra Tyler (Jay Underwood). Ironically, prosecutorial vigor results in a mistrial before Mack can recuse himself on the grounds that he was having an affair with the late Mrs. Tyler. The remorseful Mack, a loving family man, wants to put his one-night stand behind him, but loony Ezra intends to ruin Mack's sedate existence. Ezra poses as a substitute teacher at the school attended by Mac’s daughter, Daisy (Bryn McAuley), and acquaints himself with Daisy's live-in nanny, Jo-Jo (Melissa Galianos). He also pretends to be a masseur, the better to put his hands all over Mack's wife, Laura (Maxim Roy). After Mack becomes aware of Ezra's intrusions, he hires a private eye to put a scare into the cuckolded psychopath. Ezra responds by killing the detective. When Mack’s business card is found on the corpse, cops zero in on Mack and his clandestine affair with Mrs. Tyler. And now that Mack is a suspect, they're not very helpful when he complains about Ezra's harassment. Mack is desperate to clear his name and shake off Ezra, and when Ezra invades Mack's home he takes the law into his own hands. But Ezra has anticipated Mack's every move. In addition to working as a genre cat-and-mouse game, this genuine nail-biter explores the consequences of guilt and breaks with b-movie tradition by focussing Mack's adulterous shame and the part it plays in push Ezra to mad retaliation.
