A touchy subject at the time suffers from a poor plot. Too many ripe situations that could have occurred (prejudice, as one example) were never considered, leaving this film unfulfilled. Barthelmess has grown up thinking he is Chinese and has handled the racism that accompanies being

different. He and Bennett fall in love, and of course encounter many obstacles that only bring them closer together. Then it turns out that he is Caucasian after all. To explain the twist of fate, the film flashes back to his birth. Too much fluff and not enough realism in what could have been a

powerful film.
