This provocative character study was unfortunately dumped on the southern drive-in market without seeing the greater distribution it deserved. Hansen is an old woman who's trying to keep her beloved diner from closing. Daughters Bloom and Bellan lend a needed hand, but Hansen's pride gets

in the way of her asking for additional help. The diner is a community gathering place where all the locals come to vent their problems. In an effort to save the diner Hansen goes to Miami in search of a "sugar daddy." She runs into various types including a lunatic Napoleon and a married Texan,

but she never gets the money she needs. In the end she somehow attains the needed cash, and the diner is saved. Though some moments pander to cheap sentiments, this film is, for the most part, a realistic look at a poor woman's struggle in the rural South. The direction is good, with a fine

feeling for the characters and their problems. Hansen's performance is marvelous.
