Producer Nebenzal's remake of his 1932 film DIE HERRIN VON ATLANTIS is an unfortunately successful flirt with disaster. O'Keefe and Aumont are foreign legionnaires who find a secret passage in the middle of the desert which leads them to the Lost Continent. Montez is the queen of Atlantis,

a ruthless woman with whom Aumont falls hopelessly in love. The film was a disaster from the word "go." The original director, Arthur Ripley, was replaced by John Brahm, who proved no better; finally Tallas, the film's editor, was brought in to clean up the mess as the third director. Footage from

the original film (directed by the great G.W. Pabst) was also used to no avail. The result was a real campfest with lots of posturing and completely hambone performances. Good for some cheap laughs but not much else, though the film developed a minor cult following because it was one of Montez's

final films.
