old-time preacher who tells the boy his life is full of sin. The old man dies and Sands, overwhelmed by guilt, takes to preaching. But his heart isn't in it, and finally he returns to the rock life after his aunt (Hutchinson) convinces him that one should always use the gifts given to him by God.
