Hayden is a deputy with a sawed-off shotgun, on the trail of killer Prescott, who blew the local marshal in half with his gun. Hayden is joined on the trail by De Carlo, whom he saves from a band of Apaches. Later the pair becomes a trio when bounty hunter Scott, who's also looking for Prescott, joins up. The film ends with an exciting shotgun battle between hero and protagonist. Directed with precision, the film is marvelously photographed, making splendid use of the scenery. The actors flesh out their characters with style, saving this from turning into a programmer western. The script was cowritten by Calhoun, who had hoped to have the starring role. However, this dream was shattered when Allied Artists picked up the property and Calhoun had to be satisfied with just the writing credit.
