Girardot is a made-it-herself rich woman who becomes depressed and begins feeling her age when a younger lover abandons her. She goes to a sanatorium off the French coast to cheer up, but runs into a few unexpected problems. The chief doctor (Delon) is a younger man and seems normal

enough, but his patients are a different story. A group of Portuguese boys arrive to do some work but they are soon gone, apparently because the climate didn't agree with them. In reality, they are subjects of Delon's bizarre experiments. He drugs the young people and slowly bleeds them to death,

so he can use the bodies to keep his affluent clientele feeling younger. Girardot kills the doctor but is arrested for murder by a police lieutenant staying on the island. SHOCK TREATMENT starts off with some clever and suspenseful moments in a relatively good looking setting. However, the tension

quickly degenerates. Some attempts at satirizing the affluent pay off but aren't new or terribly witty. Delon gives some energy to his part and Girardot works, but the film never quite comes together.
