Finding an eight-foot-tall yellow bird shouldn't be a problem, but it is if you don't know where to look. Big Bird (Spinney) is taken away from the gang at Sesame Street because the imperious Miss Finch (Sally Kellerman) thinks he would be happier growing up and living with "his own kind." She takes him to a town called Oceanview, Illinois, to live with a bird clan known as the Dodos. Big Bird thinks the Dodos are a bit too squirrely for him, so he leaves and starts back toward New York. Being a flightless bird, he has to walk and hitch and do all the things land-bound animals must in order to return to his beloved and comfortable Sesame Street. Meanwhile, all of Big Bird's pals have joined together to try to find him. Naturally, Big Bird meets some intriguing people going East. Lots of cameos are here to delight parents who take the kids to see this movie. Good work from Sandra Bernhard, director Paul Bartel, and Hollywood favorites John Candy and Chevy Chase, as well as some fine moments with Kermit, the Cookie Monster, Ernie, Bert, Grover, and many of the other Muppets, many of whom are voiced by creator Jim Henson himself and associate Frank Oz.
