Broad, crude comedy hit has Rodney Dangerfield as Thornton Melon, the immensely wealthy owner of a chain of "Big Men's" clothing stores. His son Jason (Keith Gordon), a student at Grand Lakes University, has lied and told his father that he is a "big man on campus" and a champion diver. In

truth, the boy is a nerdy towel attendant for the diving team and has only one friend, Derek (Robert Downey, Jr.), a self-styled revolutionary. Thornton decides to enroll in the school so that he will be closer to his son and can help him through his current problems, but finds the task more

difficult than he anticipated--money helps, however. The plot is suitably slight, allowing plenty of room for the barrage of jokes that roll off Dangerfield's tongue. The result is unsophisticated, unilluminating, unambitious, and hilarious.
