Plot of this film, which features Bancroft as a rag-sheet editor, seems to have been inspired by the story of a real-life city editor who had died at Sing Sing. Bancroft's character is a tyrant who prints the news, no matter what it takes and whom it harms. He gets his just desserts,

however, when he becomes the subject of some juicy gossip: a photographer takes a picture of a banker with his arm around Bancroft's wife. The banker is later murdered, and the audience is led to believe that it was Bancroft who killed his wife's lover. The film ends with scenes of Bancroft in

prison, editing a convict newspaper.
