after performing briefly in vaudeville became a film prop man in 1919. He debuted as a director in 1927, turning out low-budget westerns and action pictures for various studios. He directed many East Side Kids (later known as the Bowery Boys) comedies in the 1940s and went on to direct television

programs in the 1950s.
