Oft overlooked in Jackie Chan filmographies, RUMBLE IN HONG KONG (a misleading retitling of the 1974 film POLICE WOMAN) is a slight crime tale featuring Chan with a pancake-sized mole on his face in a bit role as a thug.

Gang chick Ho Mei Fong (Hu Chin) hops into the cab of Chien Chin (Charlie Chin) while fleeing from her buddies. Stuffing a packet behind the back seat, she collapses and dies. Not knowing about the purse, Chien Chin is bewildered when the gang comes after him and later sends a woman claiming to be

Ho's sister looking for it. Then Ho's actual sister, a cop, arrives. She and Chien Chin are captured but break free, battling the gang members until the police arrive, at which point they suddenly discover the packet with its incriminating photos of the gang doing something or other.

Not much of a story. Not much action. Not much of a movie. The end is choppy and confusing, the fighting broad and uninspired. There is an entertaining interlude wherein we learn that pornographic and violent literature and film are the cause of crime, and Chan, still a teen with his original

pre-plastic surgery eyes, gets to wear oversize aviator sunglasses just like Bruce Lee (or Elvis). He purportedly became friends with the actual star of the film, Charlie Chin, and the two went on to trade acting lessons for fighting tips. Chin would later costar in the LUCKY STARS film series,

several of which feature Chan in guest stunts. And while Chan would clearly just as soon forget this film existed, it no doubt features prominently on Charlie Chin's acting resume, as the picture in which he gets to beat up Jackie Chan. (Violence.)
