Reuben, Reuben Reviews

In a thankless role, Tom Conti plays poet Gowan McGland, who spends much of his time getting drunk and making a fool of himself in a small New England community. He sponges off older women until he meets Geneva Spofford (Kelly McGillis), who decides that there is still something left in the old boy worth saving and sets out to reform him. The rather dated, forced comedy depends on obvious conflicts between McGland's rudeness and the conservatism of the New England town. Conti received a nomination for Best Actor but lost to Robert Duvall for TENDER MERCIES, the screenplay was also nominated.
