After surviving a Nazi concentration camp, a doctor finds the husband who believes she is dead, but finds he's begun an affair with the step-daughter she gained from her first marriage. Still after the money he married her for, he plots to kill her.

A tense but unfulfilling film about an attempt at the perfect murder. Schell is living with his stepdaughter, Eggar, in post-WW II Paris. His wife, Thulin, was tortured at Dachau, one of the Jewish prison camps, and finds Schell in the arms of and setting up house with her stepdaughter. Schell is driven by unrelenting greed as he kills Eggar and then tries to murder his wife to fulfill his passion for money. But he doesn't succeed, and Thulin and Lom, the doctor who reconstructed Thulin's face, end up together.
