But Kato and his wife have fallen deeply in love, and Mifune loves their child as if it were his own. Not wishing to destroy the bond between his son and wife, he refuses to bring the woman back. Mifune and Kato are then ordered to commit hara-kiri, but they refuse. They instead take on the armies

of the ruling forces, thus meeting with their end. An extremely dim view of a life that conflicts with tradition, given the appropriate atmosphere and direction.
