Raton Pass Reviews

In an odd twist for a western, Neal battles with her husband, Morgan, over ownership of their large ranch. The feud is touched off when Morgan applies for a loan to build a new watering system, but Neal gets other ideas. She plans to take hold of the entire ranch by leaving Morgan, swinging investor Forbes onto her side, and marrying him. She hires a gunman to keep her husband off the ranch, but Morgan rallies the support of the surrounding homesteaders. This leads to a climactic gun battle between Neal's henchman and the homesteaders, with the latter coming out victorious and Morgan winning back his ranch. Neal is never quite at home in her rather dubious role. The Tom Blackburn-James Webb screenplay is based on a work by Blackburn, though sources differ as to which one: some cite his novel Raton Pass, others his story "Whiteface."
