The sixth film in the "Winnetou" series of European-produced westerns, this was the first in which Stewart Granger played the cowboy hero Old Shatterhand, taking over for Lex Barker who had played the role in the first five films. Brice is still around as the hero's faithful Apache

commpanion, and this time the good guys seek to avenge the death of their friend Crnko, a wagon master who has been killed by a ruthless gang of outlaws. Brice volunteers to take the wagon train through the dangerous territory himself, and he uses his negotiating skills to forge an agreement with

the Navajos so that the group may pass unharmed. Unfortunately, Leipnitz, a greedy landgrabber intent on bilking the settlers out of their land so he can obtain the oil rights, kills the Navajo chief's son. The Indians assume the dirty deed was done by Brice and the settlers, so they go on the

warpath. Luckily, Granger arrives in time, with Leipnitz in tow, and the Navajos settle down. This ordinary story is somewhat distinguished by the fine cinematography that was the hallmark of this series.
