A new science teacher inspires her deadbeat students by challenging them to build a sun-powered car for competition in a solar derby. Inspired by a spunky high school teacher (Halle Berry), the usual suspects (fat kid, misunderstood slut, insecure hothead, shy math whiz etc.) get together to build a solar-powered go-cart and prove they're not the lowlife scum everyone takes them for. Against all odds, they win the Hawaiian leg of a corporate-sponsored solar car race and go on to grueling cross-country competition in Australia, where they learn powerful lessons about friendship, loyalty, self-respect and... oh, why go on? It's COOL RUNNINGS meets DANGEROUS MINDS in Hawaii, and the only notable thing about it is the car: It's shaped like a giant flying roach, right down to the gracefully waving twin antennae.
