In the days before his hit television series "Wiseguy," actor Ken Wahl was just another pretty face struggling through forgettable dreck like this. Here he's Don Jardian, a young doctor in Vietnam counting the moments until he can flee Southeast Asia and hustle back to the US, where he can

open his own practice and make lots of money. When he meets Deborah Solomon (the unlikely Cheryl Ladd), a nurse who believes in the war and in what she's doing, he falls in love with her. Deborah keeps him at arm's length because she can't bear the thought that anyone would become a doctor for any

other reason than to heal. Her devotion to duty soon inspires him, and their love affair flourishes amid the horror of war. True love never runs smoothly, however, and neither does this movie. So little is made of the Vietnam setting that this story could have been set during the Spanish-American

War. With lead players as bland as Wahl and Ladd, the 115-minute running time seems interminable.
